Fellowship Non-Profit Housing Corporation, a community economic development organization, was developed in 1992. The organization stems from the Greater Christ Baptist Church under its leader for twenty-two years, Reverend James C. Perkins. The main purpose of Fellowship, Inc. is to serve as the "voice of the community" by coordinating and implementing key economic and community development efforts for the residents of the area. The Board and Executive Committee are the primary instruments of administration for Fellowship, Inc. Fellowship Non-Profit Housing Corporation (FNPHC) has been actively involved in housing related endeavors since the orporation's inception in 1992. The majority of FNPHC's activities have focused on strategic planning for its target southeast Detroit neighborhood and pre-development efforts.
- In 1994 FNPHC worked with Michigan State University to conduct a house-by-house conditions inventory of our target community.
- In 1997 FNPHC hired the University of Michigan Legal Assistance for Urban Communities to review and analyze title to over 100 properties in our target development area. Further, the Legal Assistance for Urban Communities helped FNPHC with drafting a pre-development agreement with a potential development partner.
- In 1998 FNPHC worked with Wayne State University to determine the optimal land use strategy for our redevelopment target community.
- In 1999 FNPHC hired a market research firm to provide a market analysis for our southeast Detroit neighborhood.
- In 2000 and 2001, FNPHC in partnership with the TBD Group developed a community housing plan (East Village) for FNPHC's redemptive turf.
- In 2002 FNPHC acquired land through Revitalife to be utilized for development of a community center.
- Quarterly seminars are held on becoming credit ready for potential homeowners.
- In the spring of 2005, FNPHC will break ground on Phase I of its’
economic development plan for the community surrounding the Greater
Christ Baptist Church. Phase I will consist of 50 scattered site rental
housing units.
